Check out these five reasons why you should start using headphones on your PC right now.

How many of you out there have considered using headphones with your PC? I see a few hands. Okay, I know I can’t really see you, but my point is that some people have used headphones on a PC while others haven’t ever even considered it. In most cases, even those of you that do only do it when they have to, instead of making it a regular practice. Others still seem to think it is a waste of time.

I’m here to tell you that is most definitely isn’t. There are many great reasons out there to use headphones on a PC, and these become even more important if you happen to use a laptop. From improved sound, to better gaming, and even productivity, there are lots of reasons to consider plugging in a pair of headphones to your PC.

Today, let’s show all you doubters why you should, at the very least, consider it. Today I have put together a list of five reasons why you should use headphones on your PC. I believe that once you read this list, you will realize that there are great benefits to using headphones on your PC and I’m betting many of you may even consider doing it on your computers both at home and at work.

So Why Should You Do It?

With all the great computer speakers, you may think there is no point to use headphones on your PC. But I beg to differ. Let’s take a look at five reasons why you should consider using headphones on your PC every day.

1. Remove Yourself from Distractions

Whether you are at home or at work, I’m willing to bet there are tons of distractions. It could be kids running around playing or your wife watching TV or even your coworkers talking and moving about the office. That is just the tip of the iceberg. Bottom line is life is full of distractions and they won’t be going away any time soon, or ever. So what are you supposed to do? What you are doing needs to get done, so you need to come up with a plan.

When you are sitting at your PC, chances are you are trying to get some work done. At the very least you are trying to accomplish something even if it is just a small distraction from the rest of life for a few minutes. With all the background noise and movement, it can be tough to concentrate. This is really problematic when you are trying to get a little work done. By putting on a pair of headphones and firing up some music, you can tune out everything going on around and get much more done. Your ears will be covered and the music will drown out much, if not all of the background noise coming from all around you.

2. Motivate Yourself

Music is, without a doubt, a great motivator. It can stir your emotions and put you in the right frame of mind for what you want to do. If you are sitting at your PC and you need to get some work done but you can’t seem to push yourself to do it, why not try slapping on some earbuds and letting the music inspire you?

A nice, steady upbeat song can do wonders for your frame of mind. It can get your heart pumping and help you begin to move through the task at hand. Let’s face it, not everything we do at a computer is glamorous, so a little music can go a long way toward helping us plow through those tedious tasks so we get done everything that needs doing.

Just make sure you don’t focus too much of your attention on the music. While music playing through your headphones can really help you, it can also interfere with your productivity, if you focus more on the music and less on what you are doing. Try choosing songs that are fast paced but aren’t necessarily your favorite, that way you spend more time working and less time singing along.

3. Don’t Disturb Family/Coworkers

While I mentioned getting rid of distractions above, at the same time you don’t want to be a distraction to others. You want to be courteous to those around you, don’t you? This goes for both at home and at work, although I would guess that many of you probably already do this in the office.

Just because you want to listen to music, doesn’t mean the people around you want to do the same thing. Even if they do, they may not want to listen to your personal musical choices day in and day out. That’s ok, remember, it is our differences that make the world go round. So, instead of becoming that annoying coworker who blasts their music or instead of becoming that guy that annoys his wife with too many replays of “I’m Too Sexy”, why not grab a pair of headphones and hook them up while you work on your computer?

With just one simple plug, you can go from the most hated to the most loved employee at your workplace. In the end, you will be doing both your fellow employees or family a favor and yourself at the same time. You will drown out the background noise while at the same time not becoming part of the background noise for other people.

At the end of the day all of your coworkers will thank you for being so considerate and your family will appreciate it, too. But don’t bet on them telling you so. You know how it is with family.

4. Immerse Yourself in Your Games

Ah video games, you know I love them. If you follow this blog you know I do as I mention them all the time. If you are a gamer, you know how important sound can be to your gaming experience. Not only will great audio help you immerse yourself into the world, but it can also mean the difference between life and death. Today many games give audio cues to help you along, such as signals of what is coming up behind you. If your speakers are crappy, though, you won’t hear anything like that and you won’t feel like you have been transported into the world.

This is especially true if you play games on a laptop, as those speakers really don’t cut it for much of anything except Windows beeps and warning messages. If you want to up your gaming experience and take it to the next level, you don’t have to invest in a huge, expensive speaker system. Instead, you can just pick up a high quality set of headphones that are designed especially for gaming. These will provide you with a rich media experience when playing games that will help you improve your gaming performance as well as make you want to come back for more again and again.

5. Improve Your Sound Experience

While computer speakers have become one of the number one ways people listen to music, they don’t always offer the best listening experience. This is especially true if you own a laptop. The fact is the speakers are just too small and lack the power you need for a truly impressive audio experience. Now, while the same can be true for headphones, if you have invested in a really good pair of headphones, you can greatly improve your overall sound experience by simply plugging them into the audio jack on your laptop.

Many headphones out there can easily be found that will provide a much better listening experience than your computer speakers. They will provide much richer bass and midrange tones as well as provide a crisp and clear high end while still remaining warm. If music is important to you, then why listen to it through a tinny speaker that wasn’t designed for music listening? Grab a pair of decent headphones. You will be so glad you did.
