If you are like me, you love slapping on a pair of headphones and getting lost in your music. Who doesn’t? However, there are many things that we do when wearing headphones that completely and totally annoy the people around us.
Today I thought I would take a quick look at some of the most common things we do that annoy people when listening to headphones. Hopefully, by recognizing these annoying things that headphone owners do we can do a little better job at being considerate while we are enjoying the music.
Annoying Things Headphone Owners Do
Are you ready for the list? How many of these are you guilty of doing yourself? Let’s get started.
1. Speak Too Loudly
We know when you have your music cranked in your headphones that it is hard for you to hear us and it is hard for you to hear yourself when you speak. But that doesn’t mean you need to shout like you are talking to an 80 year old man that lost his hearing in the war. We can hear just fine, thank you, so try speaking in your normal voice even if you have a hard time hearing yourself.
2. Ignore the World Around Them
This one is really annoying to people walking and driving around you, and it can be dangerous for you. So many people walk down the street with their heads in their phones and their earbuds blasting that they have no idea what is going on around them. They walk into people, walk in front of cars and basically just forget all common street courtesy. Stop it now. Just stop. You are not that important so for the love of god pay attention to what is going on. If you don’t and you get hit by a car, I won’t feel sorry for you.
3. Turn It Up for All to Hear
Not all headphones block all the sound coming out them. If you turn it up too loud, chances are those sitting around you in quiet places especially are going to be able to hear it. Hey guess what, others may not want to listen to the music you are listening to. If you are in a quiet place, this is really a problem. So turn it down and stop annoying everyone around you.
4. Sing Out Loud
No matter how much you believe it, you are not Bono. Now I understand that you love to sing while your favorite artist blasts in your ears. But, guess what. We don’t need to hear it, especially when it is not accompanied by music. Remember, we can’t hear the music you are listening to. All we can hear is your shrill voice belting out the lyrics, well, some of them, in an off key tone that could break glass. If you are in public, please stop singing and save the ears of everyone around you.
If you are a headphone lover, I’m sure you have been guilty of this at one time or another. Let’s be honest, we all have. Still, that doesn’t make it right, and many of these practices are totally annoying to people around you.
Remember, just because you are using headphones to escape the world around you, doesn’t mean that you have suddenly left it entirely. So make sure to practice good headphone etiquette so you don’t drive the people around you crazy.
